Safety Bolt
We're Safety Bolt and given our recent €2.6M fundraise and €13M LOI, we're seeking highly driven, top 1% talent to join our team and scale our monitoring solution to a multi billion euro infrastructure market.
If you're simply looking for a job, this is not for you. We seek highly motivated people who proactively and obsessively strive to solve novel problems all the way to product launch and beyond, fundamentally changing the way we build, maintain and monitor physical structures.
What we do
We build retrofittable sensors that measure the clamping force inside a bolted joint. Using magnetostrictive sensing, each sensor reads the stress in a standard steel bolt without touching it and without modifying the joint, then reports over LoRaWAN to a cloud platform where trend analysis reveals developing risk long before an inspection would. It clips on in under a minute and delivers structural integrity data for up to twenty years.
Bolted joints hold up critical infrastructure everywhere: wind energy, bridges and civil infrastructure, rail, tunnels and mining, and heavy process industry. A single wind turbine alone holds over a thousand bolts whose tension is checked by hand, if at all, and loss of preload is one of the main drivers of structural failure. The same sensor addresses all of them.
Why now
With ex-McKinsey leadership, we have developed and patented industry-leading technology over the last 7 years and recently reached a technical breakthrough, enabling an oversubscribed seed round with top-tier investors (to be announced), selection as one of Sweden's top 33 startups, a place in NATO's DIANA program chosen out of 3400 startups, and a Letter of Intent to purchase 47 000 sensors.
Vision: Become the leading structural integrity data provider globally
Target: Volume production and distribution of retrofitted sensors, providing 20 years of structural integrity data
Culture: Truth seeking, high agency, pragmatic, entrepreneurial and hypothesis driven
Seeking: Exceptional drive, intelligence and integrity. Lead rather than follow.

The Role
This is not a conventional test engineering role. You will define and execute Safety Bolt's entire sensor characterization and validation program: designing the experiments, building the methodology, and finding the answers ourselves, since many of them do not yet exist. Your core task is to determine what the sensor can and cannot predict, under what conditions, and to what statistical confidence. You will work creatively across analog electronics, signal processing, and experimental design, and collaborate tightly with the firmware and mechanical engineers to translate findings into system specifications. Analog electronics competence is your foundation; curiosity and experimental rigor are what will make you excellent in this role.
What you will do
Design and execute a systematic test and validation program for the Safety Bolt sensor, from individual component characterization to full system behavior under real-world installation conditions
Define the sensor operating envelope: boundary conditions, measurement uncertainty, and statistical confidence requirements
Develop test fixtures, measurement protocols, and custom test setups for ESR and inductance characterization
Work with unknown-variable scenarios: what can we predict with a known bolt type but unknown environmental context? Design the experiments that answer this
Define production test procedures and give input to calibration routines, so that quality and consistency can be ensured at scale
Collaborate with FW and ME to translate test results into requirements and guidelines
Gradually take increasing ownership of the analog front-end design as the role and team mature
Must have
Solid foundation in analog electronics and measurement systems
Ability to design, execute, and evaluate systematic test programs: from experiment design through statistical analysis
Hands-on with measurement instrumentation: signal generators, impedance analyzers, oscilloscopes, lock-in amplifiers, or similar
Comfort with open-ended experimental work where the methodology itself needs to be invented
Cross-disciplinary thinking: prepared to work across electronics, signal processing, and algorithms as the problem requires
High ownership: you define the test agenda, not just execute someone else's plan
Nice to have
Experience with analog front-end design, resonance circuits, or impedance spectroscopy
Background in sensor characterization, measurement physics, or instrumentation engineering
Experience with statistical experimental design (DOE) or measurement uncertainty analysis
Knowledge of signal processing: DFT, FFT, frequency-domain analysis
Experience developing custom test fixtures or measurement setups
Background in industrial sensing, precision electronics, or research instrumentation
Education
MSc in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Measurement Technology, or equivalent. A BSc with strong analog and instrumentation background will be considered. A research background (PhD or industry research) is equally relevant; the role values scientific rigor over formal title.
Experience level
3-6 years in a role involving measurement systems, sensor characterization, analog electronics, or experimental engineering. A conventional test engineer background is not required; we are equally interested in candidates from instrumentation, applied research, or precision measurement.

About Safety Bolt
Safety Bolt develops wireless retrofit sensors that monitor bolted joints in critical infrastructure. Using magnetostrictive sensing, each sensor converts mechanical stress in a standard steel bolt into a measurable signal, giving asset owners continuous data on clamping force without modifying the joint or replacing any hardware. Measurements are transmitted over wireless to a cloud platform, where trend analysis and alerts identify developing risk long before a scheduled inspection would.
The company serves wind energy, bridges and civil infrastructure, rail, tunnels and mining, and heavy process industry. The technology is patented in the US, Europe and Asia and has been independently validated with several large industrial partners.
Safety Bolt AB was founded in 2023 and is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.
